Santa Barbara / Magic Mtn / 63-Mile X/C Epic - Video

Post by JD »

On behalf of OP's weekday flying challenge, I proudly present my next level of Dante's Inferno:

This was Tuesday's flight and I did my best to capture the experience w/ the shooting, editing, 3D animation, music and captions.
Flight tracks: http://www.paraglidingforum.com/leonardo/flight/558315

The flight was nearly 5 hours long w/ over 44,000' of total climbing. Lots of gorgeous scenery and wispy goodness. It ends after flying right over the roller coasters of Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park near Valencia, CA.

Local conditions only yield this kind of flight a few times per year. I had the opportunity go farther but didn't want the risk as I hit the worst crossing terrain late in the day.

Enjoy!
Jonathan

Great video best one so far, liked the music changes while in tiger country made me feel your stress. To bad you did not make it to to Kagel last and only gut that did was Scott Angel he was getting 8 to 9K. Good job.

I have flown the Mosquito over Magic Mountain a couple times waiving to the people in the tower its pretty cool.

Thanks Seabass. Had I not hesitated when I first climbed after launch, I may have gotten to Castaic Junction early enough to hit 5,400' cloud base there. I probably would have headed East along the wash and then up the 14 toward Little Rock. W/ the prevailing 8-10 mph due West breeze it would have made a bailout landing a lot easier.

Fast Eddy used my Garmin 76S which recorded his entire drive. I took his chase tracks and combined it w/ my flight tracks in SeeYou's animated view then combined that w/ my flight and a fitting movie sound track to come up w/
