It definitely looked strong even from 118, approaching Sylmar.
Nobody showed up in the LZ, only Fred was already gone up with tandems, and I think I saw Darril in the air shortly after Fred.
Powerful clouds+strong lift+strong wind=strong conditions.
So I ballasted up and took off to have the whole playground to myself.
And strong it was indeed.
Winds around 17, somewhat gusty, out of west at flying altitudes, temps around 50, strong cloud suck, cloud base around 5500.
Played very carefully, stayed way below clouds, and since the system was moving east, the west side started to clear up, and that's where I stayed mostly.
Later it got much mellower, winds were already 10-14, and all ominous looking clouds moved over Lukens and beyond.
Later I saw Fred (again) and Chris Arminta setting up. Flew a little more with Chris and after 2 hours couldn't take the cold any more.
Here is the money shot.
