We need volunteers!

Who among us will step up and help with making the spot landing circles?
Who is willing to help out for a couple hours and track spot landings?

Anyone planning on bringing guacamole?

Our Club exists because of the generous spirit of volunteers. Without it we would not have a Club or the support we need to continue to fly Sylmar. Please help SHGA have a fun, successful event...

Hello Lynn,

I will be there for a morning lesson at 10am and should be on the ground before any of the festivities begin so I could help with the landings if needed. Unsure if I will have time to make Guac, but I may be able to get my dad to bring a small keg of homebrew for people when they are DONE flying..

Take care,

Marc

Lynn sent to me a small list of morning tasks/needs/notes. I publish them here with minor edits:

I (Lynn) will be in the LZ at 8am w/Jose Lopez showing up at 8:30am to begin setting up the Bounce "thing" for the kids.

Please know that we will have a few special guests:

1) Special Needs adults from a group home in Sunland
2) Lori Wheeler from Zev's office and potentially others from her office
3) Bill Soderquist who told me that he really wants to come and support the comp pilots but he can't 100% confirm in advance (understandably)

Here's my (Lynn's) list of needs:

9am - Spot Landing Circles:
Need 2 - 6 peo. to help with making the circles
Need at least 20lb of flour (Purchased)

9am - LZ, Table and Shade structure set up
Need 2-4 people to help

9am -Rob set up PA system that includes music
Does Rob need help?
Do we have IPOD to use? We need an IPOD w/music :-)

12noon - 5pm
Need help tracking spot landings
Ideally 2-6 people trade off in 2hr shifts

I (Mike) am bringing a large cooler.

It is suggested that people bring their own chairs as there will be a crowd.

I (Mike) am bringing an extra shade structure.

In the BOD meeting Thursday the purchase of two additional shade structures was approved as they were on sale. Those will be available on Saturday. Also, the purchase of 10 additional plastic chairs was approved. I still recommend the bringing of personal chars in addition.

Mike Moacanin

Hello Mike,

I will be showing up around 9pm for a morning lesson at 10am. If I am there in time I can help with the circles. Also sinc emy lesson ends early I will be on the ground before any of the comp peoaple start to land so I can help with the spot landing.

Also, I have an easy up if there is a need for more shade..

Marc:

Great! Go ahead and bring your easy-up. More shade is better. If we don't use it, I'll buy you a beer in penance.

Regards,

Mike

It was so great to get back up to Sylmar again! You guys have an amazing club and I'm so glad I finally managed to get myself out of San Diego to fly with you all.
Cheers,

What a great turnout.

Glad to be a member of this great club. Thanks for making the day so special. A HUGE thanks to a lot of people that work behind the scenes and those that assist the ones in the limelight. We couldn't do nearly as much as we can without the support of so many people.

This is getting easier every-time. I had a few missteps during the downloads. Namely Greg Kendall's track log. Looks like it recorded but it has the incorrect date, so it might have the wrong offset (not sure). Sorry Greg, still trying to see what I can do. Might need another download from your instrument for the 12th

Like I said during the announcements, I think Ken Andrews had the best view of the competitors when he rounded the first TP and saw the airforce coming at him :o . Pretty sure it was an awesome sight.

In retrospect could we have went across to BigT? Maybe. But I think we would have put a few people on the ground coming back from there. I believe the TP over the cemetery was strategic enough. Some pilots really struggled after that. So it wasn't a complete gimme. The open class was well attended this year with about 11 pilots competing

Zippy gave our club and the event a nice write-up on the Wills Wing blog: http://www.willswing.com/blogs/PilotBlo ... tival.aspx
