Labor Day Weekend - Garlock - Falcons? - SATURDAY is it!
A few of us were talking about going to Garlock over Labor Day Weekend - exact date is dependent upon the weather forecast. Then a couple (2 so far) were talking about flying our Falcon's instead of our usual wings.
If you are interest post up your interest including any preference as to day (Sat, Sun, Mon).
Anyone with leverage with a driver?

Garlock on Labor Day
Me too! In the desert flatlands, the thermals are often widely spaced with large areas of sink between. Falcons aren't real good at running away from sink, so I'd be inclined to take my U2 instead.
You can do better than you think with a Falcon. But you do have to change your flying style. Downwind. Take it all the way to the top. If you are drifting and staying at the same altitude, don't leave. Then go directly downwind. Lift frequently goes in lines on the flats, so you have a higher chance of getting the next thermal that way.
Falcon record is currently over 200 miles - almost straight downwind. (I think 205, but am not sure.)

Kris and I are up for the desert on Monday.
This looks like a fairly experienced group. I wonder if you guys would like to fly Blackhawk instead of Garlock? It's a completely different flight route w/ either xc north towards vegas or east towards Blythe. Blackhawk sits just couple miles north of Big Bear Lake and about 30 miles northeast of Crestline.

Joe - I'm not sure if anyone intends or expects to fly a Falcon at Blackhawk. Anything less than a Sport 2 is unwise based upon my expereince. It's not uncommon to get drilled and land short, among Joshua trees and assorted brush. It can be a very difficult place to get and get out even on a topless glider. I just want to be sure any prospective Falcon pilots understand the risks and that it's a long glide out to a smooth landing area. Now, if pilots are comfortable landing on fire roads, it's a different story.greblo wrote:.............I wonder if you guys would like to fly Blackhawk instead of Garlock?..........
OTOH - It's a beautiful desert location to fly:

Saturday - 8 AM - SHGA L/Z
We are a tentative GO for Saturday. The plan is to meet / roll at ~ 8AM.
I'm still "working" on a driver - so any help would be appreciated.

i'm OUT! just got paid; just did bills. o fie!
also won't have a PTT until later in the day on saturday--it's being repaired. if anyone else can't go, i was thinking it would be fun to (do a drive/walk through of, or) explore possible L/Zs below lances, then go play there with the added confidence of knowing where to go just in case. (not that we're going to use them, of course...)
anyone up for that?
