Flyng the Owens in October

Looking to see if there's any interest in a trip to the Owens in October? My wife Pat could be a driver, and we can comfortably recover three, if not four pilots and gliders. Anyone interested? You've always said you wanted to launch Walt's. Now here's your chance!

Sounds great, Sue. Maybe you can bring that new Jeep you just bought! Flying the Owens is pretty awesome. A personal locator device is a must, as is a hook knife, small survival kit, and your O2 system.

I think I would be in for the first weekend of October and maybe the third as a second choice but it looks like Jim D cannot make that one.
Also, I don't think it is necessary to have oxygen to fly there, especially if you are not familiar with the place because you'll have enough to worry about. It's good when you are staying above 13K but that is probably not likely and optional also. If you haven't flown there before, I'd plan to stay local and land at the LP airport for a first flight. Even that is not a given.

You can probably get a room in town, the Dow is the usual, or camp where I would be, in the Tuttle Creek campground (or anywhere in the Alabama's, for that matter).

So the 1st WE in October really looks like the one to go after. I'll see if I can roust a couple more pilots.

Yes! I would love to test the jeep renegade! I already have a full oxygen system so it's not a big deal to bring with me.

I am interested. Earlier is better weather wise (at least statistically).
How do I get confirmed?

I have a reservation at the Dow Villa, for Fri/Sat nights. It has 2 beds, so if anyone wants to share a room, I'm ok with that. Or not. Up to you all.
$161.28 total for both nights. So, if we split it, that's $40.32 per night each. ($80.64 for both nights, each).

Note: The Dow hotel is a very old building. Historic & quaint. Showers/bath down the hall. Most (all?) rooms have a sink in the room. But it is pleasant, in my opinion. And I don't normally like old hotels. WiFi in the common room downstairs. Sometimes you can get it in the rooms. Convenient to restaurants and in town. Also, it's the traditional "Pilot" hotel, for whatever that's worth. ;-)

Usually, the Dow hotel is the cheapest in town. Not always. The Dow motel is newer and costs more.

Oh, and the hotel has whole building A/C and Heat. Not separately controlled in each room. I've never had an issue with that, even in the summer, but if that's a big issue for you, maybe not the best choice.

ALSO: Where, and what time are we meeting?????? For breakfast? We often don't get lunch, since we are flying...

ALSO, ALSO: Best dinner in the valley (my opinion) is Amigos, a Mexican place in Bishop. (5? doors north of the movie theater.) Good value also. But I'm easy about that sort of thing. As the group wishes, so shall it be.

Good to know about the room, George. Expect random pilots to crash the Dow Villa at all hours to use the showers, hot tub, pool, and if anyone challenges, drop your name. :D

My wife and I will be camping just south at the Boulder Creek RV Park. Greg will be camping at Tuttle Creek, and Sue checked herself into a hotel just north of you. The name escapes me.

Meanwhile, Rally Point Alpha will be the Alabama Hills Baker and Cafe, just across the street from the Dow, Saturday morning, 08:30 hours. See you there!
