Got this email through Santa Barbara Soaring Association's mailing list, in case any of you all are interested:

Dear SBSA,

Bates flying site needs your help! There is a Carpinteria Rincon Trail public workshop tonight at 5:30pm that we need you to attend. You don't have to speak at the meeting, you just need to be there to show support for preserving this coastal jewel. if you have a tight schedule, you can come late or leave early, but we still need you to make the trip. We've saved sites in the past by rallying the community and making a strong impression on city planners. Let's do it again today. We will have a pre-meeting at 5:15pm in front of city hall to discuss more details.

The Rincon Trail Project will vastly reduce the flying potential at Bates by cutting two benches into the ridge and reducing the angle of the slope, removing approximately 141,000 tons (4,700 truckloads) of dirt in the process. Our Site Preservation Committee met this week and concluded that our number one goal is for free flight to be included in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR). Our position is that we fully support the ''long-overdue" and "much needed" bike path but we cannot accept the current design because of its impact on the area and the flying.

Meeting Information:

Thanks for your support! See you at the meeting!

Did anyone make it to this? Obviously, I didn't. Any word on how it went or what is new here?
