Hang Gliding Documentary
The documentary made by the USC college students is finally complete, and as the second of a 3 part program. The hang gliding part starts at 9:22 of the video link below. The first cut was shown at the Christmas party but this final edit is better. You might recognize some people you know.

As a friend more or less commented: "it's a cool vid, but this has to be a first! Hang gliding is being used to inspire old people, by the old people currently involved in the sport--who, back in the day, were the young people in hang gliding videos used to promote the sport!." Full circle, gone Ozarks-style. Anyone hear that gnarly "Deliverance" banjo?

Since nobody has attempted to identify the 8 pilots in the still picture, here they are from left to right: top of truck - Rob Burgis and Eddy Townsend (with Dino). On the ground from left to right - Jim Heaton, Pete Makavoy, Jack Franklin, Jim Thompson, Tom Ludivico and Danny Black. At least some of us are still around!

except the short answer slide:
The slide about "Did you know? has an answer that simply is not true.
We are in contact with USC Impact about the matter of accuracy.
It was warned about the impact of the GH yell. Well, here is one of the results.
Complacency in our community on the matter will bring such deep injuries that
belittle the facts and merits of thousands of other people in hang gliding history.
The scene becomes very flat when such a strong flat inaccuracy is let to stand.
The FAI could take leadership on such matter and mend the injury in which they now have placed itself.
Will each of us research enough to get a clear vision of this matter and then invest a bit to
clear the matter?
JD had zero global mechanical invention for what he tinkered up. Besides that, history does
not know who invented the first hang glider; but there were thousands of hang gliders
in public domain before 1963 September …circa. Thousands.
And now with complacency in various sectors, the yell of campaigner GH is having an effect that flattens
hang glider creative history. The impact could be devastating for the future of hang gliding,
if orgs and editors and participants accept stark merit-robbing bias to be our historical face.
Such would not seem to encourage creative people to enter our craft space. Differently, go
a great distance to put the robust flow of investments out front.
Will Sylmar stand for such inaccuracy as the video is so much about pilots at Sylmar?

According to the unbiased "www.australian-hang-gliding-history.com" Dickenson invented that waterski kite in insolation, unaware of Rogallo's work.

Joe, that is pretty much why I can't believe Dickenson. They guy was a gyrocopter enthusiast prior to making waterski kites. That flying jeep project had two efforts, flex wings looking exactly like his ski-kite and a gyro-copter version. No way he was "unaware" of those efforts. He clearly had his finger on the pulse of gyros and saw the kite.
