NO CAMPFIRES OR STOVES ALLOWED IN THE BACKCOUNTRY
Due to extremely dry vegetation and an increasing fire danger, Level IV fire restrictions went into effect July 23, 2013. The following restrictions will be rigorously enforced until the end of the declared fire season.
Wood and charcoal fires are prohibited in all areas of Los Padres National Forest including designated Campfire Use sites; however, the use of portable stoves and lanterns using gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel is allowed within designated Campfire Use Sites. Click HERE for a list of sites. You must clear all flammable material for a distance of five feet in all directions from your camp stove, have a shovel available and attend the stove at all times when it is in use.
We checked with the ranger at Plaskett Creek and he informed Richard Shaw that propane and regular camp stoves ARE permitted at this time. If that changes, we will attempt to notify everyone via this forum and my email list. NO WOOD OR CHARCOAL FIRES WILL BE PERMITTED!!!!
