Lately, club pilots have been announcing their intent to land. This improves safety for all but those who do not have their FCC license to use a two-meter radio are prohibited from informing other pilots of their plans (although, they could legally monitor).
I found an instructor who holds a one-day licensing class, quarterly, for $75. The next session is scheduled for Sunday, July 23.
