Solar powered flight with Eric Raymond

If you don't mind an interview subject reclining in an electric sailplane, this is a pretty interesting look at the present and future of motors and batteries in gliding technology.

Larry can sum up for us the issues that arise when applying for a conditional use permit. As I recall there are many thorny ones. Therefore I expect the CUP process will only happen when a president and a board or committee decide to take it on because they believe it must be done. It is really gonn...

Hey, every flight is amazing in the Hang Gliding Capital of the World . Seriously, I think the name is grandiose for the fun of it. Actually, the postings here are among the most popular of all. Everybody wants to know what they missed, and it doesn;t matter if it was a bad inversion with everybody ...

Thanks for a pro report, succinct and useful to others. I can't help feeling that plenty of guys have done just this and called it "whaddayagonnado, got popped but no stitches, that's real flying for ya."

Metal's easy to replace, low price for experience.

Haven't flown for six months. Had a dizzy issue, then came into a spat of work, now no longer current. Curse of the sport--you're either a hang glider or youre not, and right now I'm not.

Good Garlock tips here, from last year's "Amazing Flights" Forum. http://shga.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=161 Most active club members read the forum. Every member with an email address, which is almost every member, receives a forum update every Thursday, year-round. The Pilot forum ...

Could you see any new water in the Owens River, result of diversion from the aqueduct? I thought I could in Google Earth, but not sure.

Airplane vs. HG conflict Shuts Mt. Sentinal Down

One of the oldest inland hang gliding sites, Mt. Sentinal in Missoula, Montana, has been shut down after several incidents regarding nearby controlled airspace and conflicts between gliders and power pilots. http://www.missoulian.com/articles/2007/06/16/news/local/news01.txt There are many clear par...

The Father's Day Barbeque will be a scaled down event this year. Everyone is invited to share a barbeque together after flying. Charcoal and the barbeque are available, just add food and fun for a good time.

Down the road, rest rooms are a significant part of the CUP and Option C arguments. I'm on board with Option C mostly because members have a vision and a passion for it, and that's nice to see. (Glad to hear the design is being opened up, with fewer vertical supports). 1. I say forget incorporating ...

Oh all right, I'll vote for Option C, the "Dahlsten Pavilion."

I just have to get used to the idea that my wife now may want to come to the LZ.

Not that there's anything wrong with that....

We have drivers who will take you up Kagel anytime you like, especially on weekdays, and often you can still soar in summer at 5 p.m (and no bumps).

Just rent a glider from Greblo or Hungary Joe, harness too. Makes it easy.

The three options prompt members to consider whether they want a clubhouse, rather than just a shelter, in the future. It;s a question everybody has to answer for themselves, and I'm not sure we are confronting it. Shelter: Shade, open, inviting, park-like, informal, with adjacent well-planned BBQ u...
