Actually EVs are typically substantially cheaper per mile. See http://avt.inel.gov/pdf/fsev/costs.pdf

Could the club take over paying and collecting payment, so that Chip doesn't have the hassle, but still have the payment be voluntary rather than rolled into the membership fee? For me, that would be the best of both worlds, provided that it still resulted in the cost being covered. I admit I haven'...

Do you suffer from obsessions? Unwelcome and distressing ideas, thoughts or images that repeatedly enter your mind. "Why am I working when I could be flying?" "Ah! I'm going to crash!" "Oh no, I'm going to land out and have to buy the beer. " Do you suffer from compuls...

Data can be injected into the APRS IS even if it didn't originate over a ham band, so I'm not sure what the issue is with point 2. But points 1 and 3 are well taken. I'm sure I can find something else to do with the device.

Very nice! I participated in a Kickstarter for an Arduino-style embedded micro which comes with inclusive cellular data. I was thinking of making a solar-powered standalone wind speed/direction device with it. If I could get that going, we could put it up on launch, assuming that the cellular provid...

And that's how the USHPA learned about validating inputs.

Next, we should introduce them to little Bobby Tables.

If we could get the keys to the prototype castle, I'm sure there are a few of us that would be willing to contribute code, test, etc... It would probably be good to spend a couple hours with Chip to get the current lay of the land, itemize the issues that need to be resolved, make a plan, etc., in ...

This was an excellent presentation, thanks to Rob for putting it together. By the way, I seem to have lost not one but TWO pitot tubes just sitting around at the table. One's a piece of the blue tubing that Andy and/or OP have available, and the other is a genuine Flytec one. If anyone happens to se...

Do you already have a fairly good idea of what's involved in that effort, or is it more an investigation task at this point?

I might be able to help out, particularly if this is not super time-critical.

Probably in LZ

I just reviewed my GoPro footage from the flight, and it looks like it was hanging from my pocket by the lanyard at the time I landed. So I'm guessing it's somewhere in the grass in the LZ.

LOST: pocket wind meter

I lost a green Kestrel 2000 pocket wind meter at Sylmar on Sunday morning. I suspect it fell from my pocket while I was flying, but it's possible it happened while launching or landing. So if you see one laying around near launch or the LZ, please let me know.

Sail boats routinely go faster than the wind. The cool thing here is that this system can do it going directly down-wind.
