Our friend, Jim Mercadante passed away on Sunday of Covid-19, as did his uncle (within 2 hours of each other). Jim was a good friend to me, and we spent many days riding bikes, flying and such. I couldn't have done some of my best flights without him as my driver - He gave up flying time so that I could shoot for the moon.
I will miss him greatly, and grieve for his parents, siblings and 17-year-old nephew, Vincent, for whom he effectively took on the role of father.
What a great guy.
I am too saddened to say more now.
Please be safe, my friends.
CORRECTION: It was Jim's brother (who lived with him) not his uncle who passed away with Jim. The uncle and brother have the same first name, so I got confused by the text message from Jim's sister. My apologies - I reread the text and it was my mistake.
Also, one more thing showing what a great guy Jim was: His brother had special needs, and Jim was his caretaker for many years, as well as holding down a full time job.
