Kagel Still Closed But Towers open

Post by greblo »

The TFR has been lifted in our area but the Forest Closure is still in effect. Therefore access to the Kagel Launch site is still prohibited. However, the Forest Service has confirmed that our Special Use Permit for the Towers Launch Site is enough to allow us access into that portion of the "closed" forest. The Towers Launch Site is now open to SHGA Hang 4's and SHGA Hang 3's with Towers Sign offs. A copy of the Special Use Permit is required to be in each vehicle that drives up there. Please don't drive up there without one. You can pick one up in l/z today or on the weekend.

Tomorrow, Saturday, I'll take a group of low hour pilots to Marshall to fly and participate in the Annual Andy Jackson Fly In. Truck will leave Kagel at 10 am. We will have no supervision at the Sylmar Flight Park on Saturday. Sunday, Windsports will train and supervise hang 3 pilots to launch at the Towers so they have a place to fly during this closure.
Let's plan on a 10 am meeting time in the Kagel l/z for that event. Only pilots with 15 hrs or more are invited.

Sorry Allen, that is a bit confusing. Andy and I are dong 2 different things at the towers. First, we're looking at hang 3 pilots and offering some classes with the goal of providing "sign-offs" so these pilots will be able to fly on their own at the towers. Second, we're taking higher hour, graduate hang 2's up there early and late in the day and hoping that we have the conditions to assist and supervise their flight activities. This is not the same as training them towards a sign off. Sorry to confuse you.
