Kagel closed due to fire and NOTAM

Post by stebbins »

The Little Tujunga fire has closed the entire area near Kagel. There is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) that closes the airspace.

Please check not only the local news, but the TFR above before attempting to fly. (Even if the road is open again, the airspace might not be.)

Map of closures

Here is a link to an ABC web page that shows a map of the area, the closures, fire-at-risk-areas, etc. It also has other information.

NOTAM expired. New one created. Still no flying at Kagel.

The old NOTAM for the airspace around Kagel was deleted. There is, however another one with the same radius and location:

http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_8_3972.html

As best I can tell, they changed the "contacting authority frequency" and rather than trust that folks would notice, the deleted the old one and put up a new one. Seems a prudent solution to the "I didn't see the change" complaint.

So, as of 3:06pm on Thursday, October 16, the airspace above Kagel is still closed. :-(

Please note that the link on the SHGA home page links (as of this minute anyway) to the OLD NOTAM, not the new one. It seems the old ones are still out there as files on the server.

To see the updated list of NOTAMs, you can always go to:
