Therefore, it should be open. With both Kagel and Crestline closed, and Santa Anas here, I thought I'd mention the fact that Avenue S appears to be outside the closure. The air is (somewhat) better too, at least during the Santa Ana. When the wind switches back, it'll be worse there, but you won't care!

By the way, according to the Crestline forum, all national parks in California are closed now.
But Ave S is outside of them.

I'm curious how people find out about USFS closures. I couldn't find a link on the USFS website. Thanks.

Angeles_NF (@Angeles_NF) on twitter has updates (https://www.fs.usda.gov/angeles/ just has the "closed" sign)

Yes it was. And there is (at least as of Thursday) a TFR. But, the area around and between Launch and LZ are outside the forest and outside the TFR. The border of the TFR for the Bobcat fire also doesn't affect Avenue S. Both of those TFRs are/were only a couple of miles away, but under normal circumstances, and with a tiny bit of caution, pilots shouldn't encroach on them.dhmartens wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 1:13 am The Lake Fire was near there.

I flew there last Tuesday, and took my eBike back to the top to get my car. Not as good a day as I might have liked, but it was decent. And I got up from 500 below launch - on my way to the LZ. Max altitude of 5666 feet, if I remember right. I got that after I almost went out to land. Fun.
