Kagel Launch Road Closed Sat and possible Sun

Post by greblo »

Bad News this weekend. The forest service has double locked the gate to launch because of extreme mud. This is causing road damage when driven on. No vehicles are allowed inside the gate until the road is dry enough, and certainly not on Saturday 4/1/23. We're hoping the road will be open on Sunday. After a Sunday morning inspection, results will be posted here on Sunday morning at 10 am.

The road to the Tower's Launch Site is also locked as the county's work on the landslide is not yet complete and access is still restricted. We will get the gate opened for few minutes on two occasions Saturday and Sunday so we can caravan a few H4/P4 vehicles up to the towers launch. One caravan will depart the landing zone at 11 am and the other at 2:30 pm for interested and qualified pilots. Caravan vehicles must pass travel through the gate together, both going to launch and returning from launch.

Remember the Towers Launch is restricted to Advanced Rated Pilots and Intermediate rated pilots with a Tower's sign off from their SHGA approved instructor. These sign-offs generally require advanced Intermediate skills and specific training at Towers Launch before being granted.

P3/H3 and advanced rated pilots not wishing to fly Towers might consider a trip out to Marshal or Crestline this weekend.
Check back here at 10 am on Sunday to see if the road to Kagel Launch has been reopened.
