CHECK BEFORE YOU FLY - IT MAY CHANGE. COULD GET BIGGER OR SMALLER. go to www.faa.gov and look for TFR's on the right hand side.

Special Airspace Bulletin ----------------------------------------------------------- FAA TO ESTABLISH TFR OVER LOS ANGELES, CA, ON APRIL 19-20.

A notam has been issued that will restrict flight in the area during President Obama's planned visit. ==> 35 nm radius TFR <Location> IMPACTED AIRPORTS <Los> 10 nm radius no-fly zone <Location> IMPACTED AIRPORTS <==Santa Monica Municipal SMO Los Angeles International LAX View the notam ( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html#0/5813 ).View the new TFR Map here: ( http://www.aopa.org/tfr/#a=KLAX ).

Here is a direct link to the pending TFR. http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_0_5813.html We do not appear to be affected. The largest area is a 10-mile radius from the LAX VOR,
Thanks Julieann!

Hmmmm.....I think another look should be given at the TFR

Hey Jonathan,
Thanks for the graphic. If you look closely enough, you can see that Kagel lies within the outermost red ring. The ring goes past Agua Dulce. The TFR is actually from the Santa Monica VOR. If you look on the chart and follow the 067 degree radial out for 5.3 nm, that will be the center of your circle. If you were to draw a circle with a 35nm radius from the 5.3nm point on the 067 radial, you will see that Kagel will be within the TFR.

Here is the written description from the FAA:
AREA A On the SANTA MONICA VOR/DME (SMO) 067 degree radial at 5.3 nautical miles. (Latitude: 34º01'22"N, Longitude: 118º21'06"W)
Radius: 35 nautical miles
Altitude: From the surface up to but not including 18000 feet MSL
Effective Date(s):
From April 20, 2010 at 0001 UTC (April 19, 2010 at 1701 PDT)
To April 20, 2010 at 1800 UTC (April 20, 2010 at 1100 PDT)

Then, if you scroll down,
C. The following operations are not authorized within this TFR: flight training, practice instrument approaches, aerobatic flight, glider operations, parachute operations, ultralight, hang gliding, balloon operations, agriculture/crop dusting, animal population control flight operations, banner towing operations, sightseeing operations, maintenance test flights, model aircraft operations, model rocketry, and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).

Just trying to keep everyone legal and safe! Just be down before 1700PDT on 4/19 and don't launch until after 1100PDT on 4/20 - BUT check before you go. :D
