Wanted: Vario
Wanted: Vario
I'm a beginner pilot and am looking to get my first vario. Any suggestions or offers are welcome.
Varios
I have several.
1. Did you check with Joe Greblo? Sometimes he has some used ones that he took in trade.
2. Look at the OZ Report and Hang Gliding.org. If you don't find anything - post a "wanted" ad.
3. Post a wanted ad on the various club forums - SHGA, CSS, Santa Barbara.
Good Luck

The 6015 lists for $649 and has a built in GPS. I have a 6005 but would look into the 6015 if I needed a replacement. I don't know anyone who has one though.

Hi Olin,
I have a used Flytec 4010 (or is it a 4030? I forget) for sale. It is a reliable but simple vario. (No GPS or wind info. Doesn't record flights) It does beep in lift and times your flights too. It served me well for 4 years.
It is on consignment to another pilot right now. I will have to prod him to decide if he wants it. Stand by.....

Olin -
I have a Flytec 4020. No GPS, but it records your last 10 flights' duration and max altitude.
I have all the manuals, etc.

One of these days someone is going to try flying with an Apple iPad running one of many GPS applications.

It looks streamlined enough and weighs 1.5lbs.
I can imagine an "Emergency LZ" application you could pull up that analyzes wind and terrain conditions and maps out on the screen your 3D approach to make the best landing, with real time feedback as you land.
