HIGH fire danger on launch

Post by greblo »

The Forest Service has raised the fire danger level and is issuing warnings and restrictions to reduce the chances of another disaster like we had a couple years ago.

We are extremely lucky that the Forest Service is allowing us up through the closed gate during the fire season and if we hope to retain that privilege, we need to provide the District Ranger with the confidence that we will not be the source of an accidental brush fire.

The largest danger at launch seems to be the tall dry grass and brush along the side of the road where some pilots park their trucks. Catalytic converters burn so hot that most will quickly ignite dry grass it comes into contact with. Currently there is no way to park off the road without parking over tall dry brush.

It would be great if a couple of pilots would take a weed eater or scythe up to launch this weekend to cut down the dry brush.

The second largest threat is probably smoking which is illegal up there this time of year.

Because it's so easy to make these mistakes, we're asking each and every club member to keep a watchful eye on each other, and especially me because I like to park at the side of the road.
