There's a brand new lock on the gate to launch and don't expect to figure out how to open it once you get there. It's way too different from normal padlocks, and too hard to see inside the pipe to figure it out. For this reason, we've posted instructions and photos on the club website in the "Members Only" section. With a little bit of practice, I've found it easier to use than the old combination locks because it's possible to re-lock it using only one hand. One other note of caution is to triple check that it's fully closed before leaving as it's a little difficult to feel if it's snapped all the way closed.
I'd also suggest the whole truckload of pilots get out and check the thing out next time you go up.
The evening of the 4th of July has always brought problems to our launch site due to the gangs of fireworks watchers that have converged there. This will be a good test for this titanic new lock.
New Gate Lock is Tricky

It appears that the new lock worked: no trash or fireworks remains were left on launch or the upper circle. Even pilots had trouble getting up the hill with the instructions in hand. Malcontents that can't get in took a new tack though. They stuffed trash in the bottom hole. Hard as it may be, I suggest taking a look into the hole before you put your hand in.
