Sunday I made it back to the volcano from locals at 3400'msl but was quickly down to 3000' so I turned in to the LZ. The ground was wet from Saturdays rain and there was no lift. I was admiring the newly manicured and wider LZ from directly over the runway between the numbers and ramp at 2000' msl when I felt a thermal. It was enough to slowly get me back to the corner house, volcano, and to the crowded 3rd bowl where about 10 gliders were getting lower. I wonder if the manicure has created better thermals over the LZ. I landed farther to the right which is now the middle of a wider runway. Its a lot smoother and no weeds so I could skim my feet about an inch off the ground. It reminds me of the Andy Jackson Airpark now.
