This is a few miles from our launch, somewhere south of the Wildlife Waystation I read. It looks under control but the Santa Anna winds will ultimately determine everything.

It looks like Trash Mountain is on fire. I noticed thick smoke just over the volcano and I also saw fire right next to the houses at the base of Locals just across the wash. Kagel looks untouched.
LZ fire
Was in the LZ this morning monitoring things to make sure my glider and many others wouldn't melt. The fire at 8 am was pretty well established and you could tell that things might get very dicey.
Here's the first of many pictures I took.
The camp9 helos were getting water from the El Cariso golf course to expedite the water dropping.

Some of the problems we (Greblo and I) had later were due to the wood chips. The fire got into those and were smoldering just waiting for the wind to pick up. Later in the day around 1pm it did just that. Greblo and I missed saving much of the north side of the LZ. Within seconds the fire flared up enough that wee had to abandon the watering we were doing with the water canisters we had positioned there only a few minutes ago.
The hillside on the Santiago Estates side of the wash had much of the same problem. Enough where the prisoner crews mopping up the operation needed to use foam to completely extinguish the embers (if that's possible). Later when the wind picked up they came over to the north side of the LZ and setup a line there so the houses would not be affected.
