Lake Elsinore Annual Turkey Meet

Post by SHORTCUT »

Saturday Nov. 29th....Thanksgiving week-end.
Elsinore works for ridge soaring when the wind is from the North...
so Santa Ana conditions could be flyable all day!...otherwise it will be the usual launch-before-it-blows-down scenario.

Landing at the Marina is pretty darn cool. Store (beer), restrooms, camping.

This from the E-team Website:

November 29th @ Elsinore Marina West LZ. check in 9am. Spot landing, bomb drop and duration for HG and PG.

Admission to the event $25.00 includes food and soft drinks. Non club members without Marina pass must pay $10 day use per vehicle at gate. If you wish to get a yearly pass, they are $10 for club members from Ken Niemi at 951-345-9054.

This is a benifit for the EHGA, 100% of proceeds go to support club activities.

Landing bailout

If you launch the E and don't get up at the cone, where are you landing? ...or are you going to cross that bridge when you come to it. I barely make the old LZ if I sink below the cone.

I've discovered a variety of "good" landing areas out in front of the E-Cone....some with streamers..some with not.
The Schoolyerd; The field next to the scoolyard (just west), The Fire Station; next to Leas market (just west). All these along Grand Ave have been utilized by hang gliders in the past...these and many smaller places have seen some PG landings.

The Marina, Everyday Mike's (lakeland Village to the east of the E), Across from O'haras; and are the most popular these days.

We are still fighting to retain the Oak Tree LZ; however, there is currently a locked gate and "No Tresspassing" signs there. A few of us have ended up there occasionally...we suggest land at the lower end..hustle over tothe olive trees (west side) break down and leave promptly. No one has ever been cited..no one with a badge has ever asked us any questions.

I think The Turkey Meet will be Huge Fun!!
See y'all on the 29th.
