A Lucky Fly day
A Lucky Fly day
I wasn't planning on flying today but sort of stumbled on the Kagel Kam and Greblo's forecast was encouraging enough to play hooky and catch up on work later. He even drove the truck up with six of us! What a mensch! Driving in from Long Beach I saw beautiful flat bottomed cumis along the range at around 5500'. By the time we drove up, a high layer blocked out much of the IR heating and we weren't sure if anything was left by the time we flew. I launched 4th at 1:33 into a light cycle that got me a few hundred above launch and I took a chance on Trash where I got down just below 3,300' when I hooked a very weak column that carried me to just above 4,300' at a point behind Kagel launch after 10 minutes for the truly amazing climb rate of 100'/minute. I was praying it would continue long enough to get me to cloud base but it just sort of fizzled. I landed after 51 minutes. I shot some video that I've edited and will upload over night. For now, here's the track in 3D.
