Nice surprise

Post by Chip »

With the forecast looking better Sunday than Saturday I held out for the hope of a better flight. Looks like Saturday was completely a bust so good call on that one (not like rocket science though).

The forecast for Sunday had it's problems but at least it was to be launchable. The wind was light when we arrived, but steadily the cycles were building and the unlucky pilots that launched early got a little more than extended sled rides.

Finally Kris Greblo showed all the veterans how it was done. Nuff of that! The line formed on launch to join the fun in the air.

For me it was more than I bargined for so that was a bonus. I was there mainly for a try at a different mount angle from the keel. Here's the results:

Don't think I be using that angle again

Chip, I agree that the wing mount gives better results. I made a nifty 10-minute music video from my 48 minutes of flight footage yesterday and the file was too big for me to upload. On another note, my experiment with synchronizing ambient sound recorded in stereo worked better than I expected so I will be doing more like this in the future. Here's my 1 1/2 minute first draft. <Edit> deleted file. See next post.

10-minutes of stereophonic ambient bliss. Be sure to click the Link to the lower left of the video graphic below and then select the high quality link once in YouTube in order to hear the stereo sound and get clear video. Just playing it regular gives low res and mono.

I just watched you video on Youtube and relived a bit my flight from the other day. Your new mike setup does good job of capturing the character of the sounds that I experience without being overwhelmed with wind noise. It definitely adds to the viewing experience. :P

Thanks, Tom. Just as your great baking skills added to the day's flying experience! I'm going to work on a better mic mounting and wind screen in order to reduce the muffling effect of my harness pocket and pick up more delicate sounds if I can.
