Old beer bottles on mountain

Post by Tom C »

Today I had a considerable amount of time on the mountain to contemplate the universe and wander around while I waited for the wind conditions to settle to a safe (for me) level. In my wanderings I discovered that many old beer bottles have been exposed by the recent fires. I gathered up an arm load (8 or 10) and took them back up to launch with the intent of throwing them in the back of Joe's truck  when Irwin came up to rescue me. However, I forgot and left them on the NW side of the windsock next to the cinder block. If someone could take a bag up and haul them off the mountain it would be appreciated. If not, I'll get them next weekend.

Also, with the vegetation low, this is an opportune time to gather up these bottles and cans as we wander off to water the plants.

In the end, Irwin arrived with another student, and they assisted with my launch. All my waiting was rewarded with a very nice glass-off with the skies totally to myself. It was 45 wonderful minutes of nearly effortless flying.

Launch Clean-up

Post by Don »

Thanks Tom!

FYI - before the gate was installed it was common to literally file a 33 gallon trash bag with cans, bottles, trash every weekend.

I saw you on launch all that time. Glad to see you were able to fly.

Tom,

Weren't you distracted my the clinking of all those bottles in your harness? Oh, wait. It was a glass off.

Isn't the glass off just the best!! 45 minutes in that must have been beautiful. Everything looks so peaceful that time of day with the sun setting off in the distance. Congrats!

As was pointed out to me by Jim Thompson, it might also be a good time to do two other things:

1) Cut down the few burned-out stumps (sticks?) that are still below launch. Pungee sticks we don't want...
2) Make it an annual (semi-annual? Quarterly?) task to keep the brush low. Now that it is low to begin with, it should be easy to keep that way if we don't let it go too long.

Thanks for cleaning up the bottles and cans!

Thanks for cleaning up the bottles and cans!
You're welcome. But I only got a handful of them. I'll try to remember to stuff a couple of trash bags in my gear bag and get more of them this weekend.
