Come celebrate a life that was worth living

Post by Chip »

Carolanne (Walters widow) is coming here from Kauai, Hawaii on April 15th. She wants us to spread some of his ashes at Kagel Mt. and points due. She has spread some where he would windsurf. She wants us to have a memorial party-cookout. She will pay for all food and beverages. I feel he wouldn't want a formal ceremony.

Saturday April 18th it looks like should work. We would like to bbq or use giant grill?

We have almost a month to plan, of course I (Rome) will help.

If you can assist let me know at the LZ or via email

Rome

p.s. I think we should have many pilots help spread many packages of ashes.

Walter Briant Celebration
When: Wednesday April 15th, 2009.
Where: Meet in the LZ

Carolann Briant is hosting a celebration and remembrance day for her late husband Walter in the skies above Sylmar and in the LZ on Wednesday April 15th, 2009.

Due to a tight schedule, Carolann can only be here on that day, so if you can be there, she would love to see everyone that knew and flew with Walter.

Bring your stories and appetite since there will be BBQ, drinks and hopefully a bunch of true and maybe a few tall tales.

We will also be having a band perform for the celebration for Walter at Sylmar. His cousin Blaine Marleaux who is part of a couple of bands will be playing rock and roll, blues etc with band members for all of us....hopefully everyone will dance too...Walt loved dancing.

Hey SHGA,

Walter's wife, Carol Anne, asked me to copy the following message to the Pilot Forum, for all to read:

Wednesday April 8, 2009
FROM: CAROL ANN

The two guitar players said that if anyone else wants to join them they are more than welcome..so any musicians please bring instruments. Walter's cousin, Blaine..one of the two is a professional musician (blues rock etc) but the other guy, Walt's cousin Brian is not....people should not be intimidated so if they play or sing please join in. Walter loved music and dancing. Looking forward to meeting everyone also.

People from our side that will be there are Walter's sister Gail and brother in law Charlie Pilliter(he's national VP of Trader Joes), my brother Dick(he is a pilot and owns a glass air which he flies in competitions) and wife Sue and kids, and Walters navy pilot buddy Ken Schechter and wife Sue. Ken was a flying midshipmen with Walter in Korea and is famous in flying circles...he landed his plane blinded and they made a movie about him...recently recd. the congressional medal. I am bringing a wonderful banner that Walter's good windsurf friend Ranny Warburton made for our Kauai party...it features Walter hang gliding and windsurfing. I am also bringing a booklet I did for anyone that wants it and book marks that I had made for anyone who wants them.

I am excited to meet everyone...I have met some of the people but not everyone. Walter loved the gang at Sylmar.

Aloha till April15th. I can be reached on my cell phone when I am in California.

If anyone is available to assist me this coming Wednesday April 15th, around 12noon, I would appreciate it. I need a few kind folks to help me set up shade structures, tables and chairs. Guests will begin arriving around 12:30 - 1pm.
