The view is better from the other side

Post by Groundhog »

The view is better from the other side of the bars in the window of the rangers "fort," and it gave me a perverse thrill to see our leader begging for his freedom from armed men.

I and my better half will be there in hopes of a repeat, as I live vicariously nowadays!

And remember! There are other weekends you can go. So, if you want to go more than once, can't make the SHGA weekend, or just plain want a different date, sign up at the link posted above.

Site monitors haven't filled in all the dates yet, but you can sign up tentatively, and that will encourage them to pick your weekend. ;-)

Yosemite Fly and Float Day a Success

Post by Groundhog »

Three individuals flew Yosemite for the first time on Saturday.
A record high number of people rafted down the Merced.
Fantastic quantities of food were consumed.
And someone left their knife at my campsite.

I just want to say THANK YOU!! A special thanks again to Barton!
It was great to meet everyone. We did not get a chance to say good-bye to everyone.

The flying was absolutely beautiful. It such an incredible place to fly! The only thing that would had made it better was to have a better landing. :o At least it was soft.

The rafting was incredible fun!!! I wish we were a little more prepared with more beer, food and sunscreen. My stomach hurt from laughing hard.

I got lots of video launching some landings and of course out on the raft.

Thanks again!!!

If you ever come up to Bay area be sure look us up or contact Lynn for our info. Okay Lynn I am admitting that I know you.

I'll be sure to work on the video and send a copy to Lynn

Happy Flying!!

Carmela and Rex,

Thanks for joining us! You two were a great addition to the weekend. SHGA has a "notorious" reputation for fun and we are happy that you could enjoy a slice of our good times. Send us your video footage and please consider yourselves among our SHGA family. We've been doing the Yosemite trip for over 10 years and remember... we have fun flying in So. Cal too. So, if you can launch The ROCK and land at 4 grand, you can safely fly and land our "crazy" LZ. Plus, many of us would be happy to host you for the weekend.

Thanks for making the drive to join SHGA in Yosemite. When we come to fly Funston, Diablo, Mt. McClure, Marina, Big Sur, Mission or Mt. Tam, we will be calling on you... :D

HG communities ROCK!

Thanks to everyone for making it a blast! Who knew the river float would be so fun.

Does anyone have a video of Malury's virgin launch? I took an amazing video of it and then accidentally deleted it like a dummy. I know there were a few people shooting launches, not sure if anyone got his or not.

Yosemite was a good time... and no bear attacks!

Eric, I have Malury's launch and all the hooting and hollering that went with it. I'll upload and send sometime soon.

Eirc, I've been able to recover deleted video on SD cards using RescuePro from Sandisk. Let me know if you want a copy.

Don't you mean: BEER attacks? Which club did you go with? Can't wait to see Malury get his Yosemite badge.

Eric, What it does is find fragments of the deleted video and present these under unique file names. It's a time consuming and somewhat messy process but it does work as long as the card wasn't overwritten with new data.

Hey all,
I am almost done with my video BUT Lynn asked if I can do an extended version. If someone had inflight video or landings they can send me please PM. I only took air photos.

I will send Lynn the raw video as well.

There will be a monitor at Glacier point on Wed, Thurs and Fri mornings, July 29-31.

This is unusual - Generally, the monitors do the weekends, and occasionally a Mon or Fri. The Park is much less crowded Tues-Thurs, so now is the time to seize the opportunity.

If you want to go, just sign up at: www.yhga.org

or call George Stebbins before Monday afternoon (July 27th.)
