Garlock this Saturday

Post by BJ Strand »

Adam Newman and I were thinking of trying our luck at Garlock this Saturday. If any H-3 or H-4's (or maybe high hour H-2's with Joe Greblo's permission) are interested in joining, please let us know.

Thanks!

I understand the the weather people are predicting high winds in the desert. Somthing like 50 mph!

What do you guys know that I don't??? :?

XC Skies (NAM Model) predicts it to drop off by Saturday. But the direction at top of the lift is bad. Lower down, it seems ok.

I'd look again more carefully Fri night, and use the RUC model (It is usually better, but not available until the night before.)

I am somewhat considering going myself, or going to Walts. Or not. ;-)

Dunlap this weekend

I'm going to Dunlap this weekend for NorCal XC league:

There is no HG category in this league, but you still can fly long XC with PGs (good thermal markers), well not that long as in Owens, but typically its around 30-40 miles. Check out past tasks:

We were talking about it at the beginning of the week before we knew for sure the forecast. If it looks unflyable, we'll of course cancel. We should know tonight if it's doable.

So Don, can we count you in? :D

Yes

I'm curious who else is going - as that will determine which glider I use.

As of this morning, the forecast looked ok. Kind of an odd direction. If the forecast is right, you'll have to use the East launch. Or find one that faces even farther east.

On the other hand, if you do get up, this would be the kind of day to go SW towards Mojave. SE wind, changing to NE higher up.... And not too strong.

But that's only if the forecast is right.

The best news is that lift strength is predicted to be stronger there than in the Owens. Lower tops, though.

Again, that's just the prediction as of this morning.

Me, I have plans (unless they change) to go to Horseshoe.

Adam and I decided to cancel our plans for Garlock. We'll probably try again later in the month.

George, thanks for the input. Good luck at Horseshoe!

Don, you were the only one to show interest. I fly a falcon, Adam flies your old Sport 2 and sometimes his old falcon. We'll be counting on you to join us when it looks good enough to go, so dust off your falcon; your Litesport is bad for my self image, it makes me look slow. :D

Good call.

Every time the forecast got updated, it looked worse. Same for Horseshoe. I've decided not to go there either.

Decidedly odd forecasts. Have fun all!

(Small chance of great at Crestline and/or Kagel. But with the forecasts so weird, I'm not convinced - But I hope they are right!)

Hey BJ. Sorry I wasn't reviewing the Forum lately and didn't see your posts. I would definitely be interested if/when you guys plan to go next.
Hope you are doing well. Later.
