On Wednesday, Kris, Erwin and me went up to Towers launch. We arrived at the gate around 1:15 PM and the club's combination lock was missing and every hole was filled with a keyed padlock. We both ended up hiking our equipment to launch and still managed decent flights but I like to old way of driving right up a lot better. I have already informed Joe Greblo about the lock situation. If anyone has any more information please pass it along to him.

Towers Launch Gate Lock Missing

The forest service Ranger, in charge of gates, has confirmed that this is caused by vandalism. The problem is that there's no way to tell which locks belong on the gate and which ONE doesn't. The only solution that the forest service can offer is to do a recall on all locks on the gate.
They are issuing a requirement that all permitted users of the gate, provide a lock with their initials engraved in it by January 30th. These engraved locks will then be installed and we'll then be able to tell if an inappropriate one suddenly appears.
Until then, we will have to hike around the gate. I'm in the process of trying to get permission for us to use a forest service key in the meantime. If permission is granted, we'll initiate a way to sign the key out to a couple of trusted drivers when requested.
