HEY DID YOU GUYS HEAR ABOUT...?
(kidding) but seriously, how do people feel about the current overshoot area being turned into an overshoot that is actually launchable and landable? that way, if you are unfortunate (or DUMB) enough to seriously mess up, you have a chance of either running it right off the overshoot and landing, or having a place to practice launching and landing! to keep it safe, we could have a minimum rating required to launch and land there, but for those of us who store our gliders in the l/z and want to keep our skills sharp, we have a place to practice! if your landing is anything less than what you'd hoped for, do 10 on the overshoot!

please bring this up at a board meeting!!!

YOU PROBABLY DON'T KNOW THIS, BUT WHEN WAYNE YENTES WAS CLUB PRESIDENT HE HAD THE HILL PARTIALY BUILT AS A TRAINING HILL.MAYBE WE NEED SOME WOOD CHIPS TO LAND ON???? ROME

A training hill is a good idea .And There could be flight school off the training hill

With the sharply sloped terrain and chain link fence on the right and the numerous dangers on the left - there isn't much room for a mistake.

greblo said that he wouldn't want students flying there, because of those dangers. the club could collectively decide what rating you'd have to have to practice there... idon't know that litespeeds would want to fly there--unless it was windy!

I think the board would probably want someone to provide a demonstration of the efficacy of this use.

Me, if I'm going to smack in, I'd rather do it after a longer flight.

well, the idea would be to build it up with our endless supply of dirt and give it the shape we want it to have. i'd be glad to try it out! if it were there, a LOT of pilots who never go to the beach could take advantage of all that practice launching and landing...
but i'm not fighting for it or making it some sort of major campaign. am merely suggesting; it's up to the club...

A training hill would be nice to have

,it could make some of us better at landing & it could be a source of Future revenue for Windsports the locals would love to take lessons there , we have the machinery to do it .if we choose to, Why not use it

If Joe thinks it is not a good idea as a training hill, then it isn't....BUT, if feasible and well done, WHY NOT call it a practice hill?!

I for one (when I do get out there again) would definitely use it for landing practice - especially on a topless (no jokes or comments please)!

I know that because of inconvenience most of us rarely practice our landing. Given a convenient practice hill I bet it would be used! (I can help with $, don't have time to give or I would be flying!)

Thanks for you good suggestion Janice. SHGA members, what do you all think? Will someone step up to promote this? Let me know what $ you will need.

And I was under the erroneous impression that I had to practice a landing each time I fly. How do you get down, Jim?

I think Joe is concerned that just anybody could show up and try to launch, even without instruction, if no one happens to be around to intervene.

Thanks for the offer of $$, Jim. When construction gets started on the pavilion, we'll talk. Which part would you like named after you?
