Santa Barbara Day Trip, January 9th

Post by Xander »

Last weekend after the Avenue S'capades, Joe Greblo was discussing a day trip to a site near San Luis Obispo called "Plowshare". Joe has since confirmed that the surrounding forest is closed, so Plowshare is tabled until the situation changes. :(

Consequently, we have directed our gaze towards lovely Santa Barbara, in hopes of harnessing all the enthusiasm that has been expressed by countless pilots who still have never flown there.

Joe had expressed to me that this would not be a lesson trip, but more of a site orientation trip for Hang 3's and above.

If there is enough interest, Greblo or I will post details. Respond to this post. . . and come fly! :P

Since this was posted in January, I assume that the title of Dec 9/10 isn't really right?

Just for those thinking about going, when is it?

I'd be interested as well. I'm guessing the dates are 1/9 or 1/10, making it this weekend?

Thanks for the correction, George - I've changed the title.
The trip is shaping up for this coming Saturday.

sounds great! If Greblo doesn't go is there any other pilots that are familiar with the site for a briefing?

I just spoke to Joe, and here are the details:

Joe made it clear that this is not a lesson trip; it is limited to Hang 3's and above.
We plan to meet at Sylmar Flight Park at 7:30am on Saturday morning.
Greblo and Richard Shaw will be driving up to Santa Barbara.

We will be launching the Eliminator before noon, and landing at either Parma or "the T" (near Cienegitas). Cat Shaw has agreed to drive, and Sazia will also drive once we arrive in Santa Barbara.

Current Participants:
Joe Greblo
Malury Silberman
Oscar the Grouch
Adam Newman
Richard Shaw & Cat
Ken Andrews
Eric Larabie
Alex Wright
Eric Brown (confirmed!)

Any questions regarding the plans, please call me or Joe.

Onward and upward,
Alex

I'd like to join too. Any room left in the vehicles?

Awesome! Chad and Tom, you're now on the list. Assuming that Joe can transport 7 people, and Richard can transport 4 people, then we should have room for you both.

I have exlcuded myself from the count, since I plan to head up on Friday evening and meet you all in the morning. I have made arrangements with Malury to load my glider for me.
