Kagel Mtn Rd -Locked Gate?-

Post by mattmaxon »

I have been looking for canyoneering routes to explore in the area now that my playground in Big-T is closed...

I went out to Dillion Divide on Wednesday 1/5 to check out some canyons off Kagel Mtn road and the gate was locked WTF ???? :(

The forest service was of no help as to why it is closed or when the road would be open

I figured some one here could help with some accurate info...

TIA
Matt

Yeah I've been over there

I contacted Jay and he said the gate is permanently locked, I assume the SHGA has a Special Use permit since the SHGA has access

My interest in Kagel Mtn area is Maple Cyn and it's tributaries (East side of Pacoima Cyn)

My main issue is an initial descent requires more gear than usual since we don't know what is in the canyon and what is required

The exit is an issue too since we've never done it I want to reserve energy to get out

My initial plan was to do the yellow route and locate an exit, do some of the other routes later
