This sucks

Post by noack »

I am only a weekend pilot beacause of that four letter word(work), and I really dont have the time(or skills) to travel elsewhere to fly right now. So for now Kagel is my only option. Because of the winds/weather I havent flown in over a MONTH. I am getting very aggitated!!!!!! My wife is even asking when I am going flyin again :D

Do other hang gliding sites across the country have extended spans of time where their site is unflyable?????

Matt - What you are experiencing is more typical than not. In general, we have it so much better than the rest of the US and much of the rest of the world. Last year I even got in more soaring during our winter than a lot of Aussies I know, got during their Summer!!!

And remember, statistically, Dec and Jan are the worst months of the year in SoCal. (For hang gliding, of course.) But my Mid-Atlantic friends mostly don't fly (or occasionally once or twice) between Mid-Nov and Early March. Depends on exact location and year. OK, some of them go to Florida...

Ave S has been flyable some of the last few weekends - Maybe you should try that?

Part of my problem living in Houston (really flat) is that my club is currently short on tug pilots and my schedule, the tug pilot's schedule, and the weather don't always work out right.

The last time I flew was in July...

...when I came out to Kagel.

Hey Dave,...heres an idea ,I saw this on You Tube . Build one of these and any competent RC pilot can launch you.And there's a lot more of them around than tug pilots. It could improve your flight ratio. 8)

1. check usairnet for van nuys.

2. double check w/ ron the night before it looks good.

3. $ave a life! call in sick and get a sub!

4. GO FLY! (personal necessity!)

5. feeding your addiction will help some impoverished underworked sub in your school district. (read: WIN-WIN!) :D

Nobody has ever been heard to say on their deathbed: "I should have spent more time at work!"

So, within reason, make time to smell the thermals.

Be prepared to get out here should we get a string of convergence days. Its not out of the question.

Sorry, I had to post this video clip of "golden-eagle-drags-goats-off-cliff"(short version).
It looks like some of the launches I have been reading about recently.

Think about a trip to San Diego. It is a bit of a drive, but perhaps make it a weekend trip and do other things. Over the past 12 weeks I have not flown on only three weekends. It is rare that a week goes by that it isn't possible to fly somewhere in the County. We have 8 active sites, Torrey being one, the other 7 are cared for by the local club SDHGPA, 6 of which have USHPA insurance coverage. Hang glider and paraglider pilots are welcome. Get in touch with me if you are interested in making the trip. If I am not flying I can put you in touch with someone who is.

Hope you had a great flight this past weekend. It was good here too.

Hi Bill,

I've heard rumors that you would like to have me recalled from my Regional Director position and take over the job yourself. I generally don't put much stock in rumors and I try to go to the source.

So is that true?

Thanks in advance,

All right........ Two flights in the last two weeks(not much more than sledders), and two epic surf sessions(10 feet) in the same week. Love El Nino Sweeet!

Thank you for listening to me whine I will try not to do so again. Also thanks to those of you who put my bad attitude in check!
