Need to test my radio - anyone live in woodland Hills area?

Hello all,

I made a headset for my radio from scratch last night and installed it in my helmet and I need to test it before my lesson Sunday morning. I have everything wired and I am pretty sure all is working fine, but I have no way to test the mike to see if it is transmitting other than seeing the radio react to my PTT switch. I live right behind Pierce College and I want to meet up with someone to see if I can transmit to their radio and if it sounds OK. Anyone around this evening between 5:30pm & 7pm. Or I commute from culver city and can possibly stop along my way home. Or possibly Saturday in the evening after 7pm.. Sorry my availablity is not the best..

I know I coudl just go to sylmar, but I am trying to avoid a trip to sylmar on one of the worst traffic days of the year..

Or another option would be is there any way to set the radio up to hear what I say over the mic in the earpiece? If that were the case I could test it on my own. I have a Yesau FT-250

Marc,
Just go outside and set the tuner to scan until it picks up a suitable conversation then hold that frequency. When there's a break just ID yourself and request a radio check. I assume you have a call sign. If not, please study and take the exam. It's fun and not too difficult.

I am studying now. I bought the book and radio but have not taken the test yet. Hopefully mid next month or so.. Thats why I dont want to anger anyone and key up and request a check. I figured I could just meet someone and test it on the club student frequency.

Too bad you're over the hill from me down here in Long Beach. A decent 1/2 or even 1/4 wave antenna is good 75-125 miles line of sight. If you drive up to Mt Wilson you will be line of sight w/ my garage roof. I'll go up and we can test.

Let's put it this way. I'm lucky to get a proper radio check when I'm up on Kagel w/ 20 other pilots.
