Best Flight Computer Yet

If you have an android phone...

Image

Features now ready for use:
Leonardo Live usage
Leonardo upload
Flight logging
View flights on map (live or stored)
Send flights via email (IGC file format)
Delete flights
Basic flight instruments (not yet reconfigurable)
Add/Edit/List/Delete waypoints
Auto import waypoints when the browser visits .wpt links
Waypoints can have a 'type' set - Gaggle will automatically show GR required to reach nearest LZ waypoints
Allow the user to view IGC files from the net or local filesystem
Color code waypoints: blue=in glide, yellow=barely in glide, red=not in glide
For testing purposes, you can enable "Simulate GPS Data" in the preferences. It will playback a prestored flight.
Auto detect launch and landing for logging purposes
Send tracklogs as KML files (I tried to get google earth for android working, but I don't think google has implemented file opening yet)
G Meter
To do soon:
Fix any reported bugs
Add turn cylinders and routes
GPS based pseudo vario
Optimization: leave gps client running less often
Show lines for the route
Option of a white screen (default on for OLED)
Gestures for switching screens
Poll waypoint positions less often
Make my basic google maps replacement (using the open map project), to allow non north up viewing/non internet connected topo
Replace programmer art with real art
Long-click on map to create waypoint
Show flight times on the flight log book
Use the UDP based protocol for leonardo live uploads
Show arrows for direction to next waypoint and compass heading
Optionally save the IGC files to the sd card by default
On map view optionally show a 2d altitude plot (possibly by making an altitude plot InfoField)
To do someday:
Calc wind speed and direction from compass, ground speed, given airspeed and ground track
Show airspace

Hey OP,

I am about to use something similar.. It's called LK8000 and it is quite amazing and it is a next generation version of XC soar. I am a beta tester but I have yet to use it since I am making some mounts to hold my HP310 GPS. I have tested it in the car though. I am using a Flytech F1 which sends NMEA stream via bluetooth to the GPS. It even has a a graphical interface for the Vario. A friend of mine in Portugal is fronting the HG/PG version.

Here is a link that will get you to the forum: http://www.lk8000.org/

Here is a link to a video of LK8000 but it is cersion 1.12 and it is now at version 1.21 so a lot has been changed. This video is more sailplane specific but the HG and PG version has the vario interface as well as other HG/PG specific items; http://vimeo.com/8279558

I am a good deal away for ever needing this functionality and for now I am just using a standard brauniger vario but when I get to the point I try some XC I will give this a try and also use it when I am just flying Kagel to get a familiarity with it.

Take care,

Marc
