Hey All,

I designed an item I am considering patenting and could use some help. Anyone have any experience with this? Anyone a patent attorney? Anybody know one they can reccomend?

It's HG related and will be doing some tests shortly. I tested it in another application last weekend and it worked well.

I dated a patent attorney, but we never talked about patents . A few years ago I looked into Hang gliding patents to see if any of my ideas were patentable. I think if its already in the public domain you can't. I read there is a 1 year provisional patent to hold your idea - about $100, and later do a full patent $500 minimum if you do it your self. You will need to make good drawings. To pay someone to do it for you its about $1000 minimum.

M.S. in engineering finished and I completed my first year of law school. My goal is to take the USPTO agent test over X-mas break.

Apply for a provisional patent. It will allow you to shop the idea to others.

Great to hear someone on here has some knowlege of the patent process. I looked into a provisional patent years ago for some climbing related items I designed, but never persued it since I chose not to make something that would have a liability of being required to arrest a fall and save a life.

This item on the other hand has none of those issues and can be used in many industries; not just HG. Anyhow, I would liek the oportunity to either meet with you or talk to you on the phone. Any help or suggestions I could get to get me on the right path would be great. I can do a lot of the groundwork and also make all my own drawings, but I need help with the paperwork process and wordage for protection.
