Spam Logins Created

Post by Mike M »

In the last 4 months about 100 spam logins have been created.
These are relatively harmless except they include a URL with the login designed to raise the google search ranking of their particular website.
The logins also clutter up the member list. Since we are now at a point where 1/4 logins is a spam login, this is a nuisance. Thus I have volunteered to tidy things up.

I will be deleting these logins over the next few weeks. It's a little bit of a pain because the administration options make this about a one minute per user process.

Most of these logins are easy to identify. Some are unclear. In the event I am unsure, I will be sending an email to the user. If I get a response from a real person, then the login will remain. I will allow about 1 week for a response. In the event I delete a real person, I apologize in advance. That's unlikely as I am going to err greatly on the side of caution. I also pretty much know the cast of characters on this board.

Mike,

You can add an Spam ACP to phpBB, or mod the database. Apparently ACP I've link to below is the best way. Older un-updated phpBB that we run in easy pray for spam bots.

Make sure to "Readme" first:

Let me know if you need any help.

Thanks for the link. Let me get my admin legs before I start modifying the software base of the BB.

In the case of the spam logins, these all seem to be real people who just create one or two logins per day. On a daily basis it's trivial to just spank them off the member list. It's only when they get upwards of 100 that life becomes annoying. I guess I get a perverse pleasure by nuking them.

I might engage a little assistance on the spam ACP if the readme is unclear.

Regards,

Mike
