At yesterday's board meeting we voted to accept a bid for construction of (most of) the new gazebo and we expect to start grading and digging footings within a week. We will still need lots of volunteer labor and there will be more said about that later.
Today several of us decided to get started and we removed the old gazebo and barbeque. Of course we left the utilities and the coke machine but everything else is either gone or in pieces in the parking lot.
This has been a long time coming and many of us are eager to finally get started, as you can see. The last picture shows where the old gazebo and barbeque USED to be.
The work this week has gone to plan with the footings dug and the rebar inserted. In addion to the rebar in the trenches, nearly 600 additional pieces that will be inserted into the wet concreat have been cut and bent. Today (Friday), we will complete the footing "clean out" check all rebar measurements within. We should be ready to pour concrete in the footings and install the first row of block next week following the rain. The work area will be covered with plastic on Saturday to protect it from the rain and the footing inspection is now scheduled for Tuesday.
The volunteer turnout has been really good, with 3-6 volunteers working every day this week. Steve Nootenboom is very happy with the turnout and the amount of work being done each day. We expect to have Steve's part of the job complete in another month. This includes all concrete work and and the steel posts that support the roof.
All sprinkler pipes have been severed as a result of the footing work and it now appears that we will have to move the valve system as well. This will not happen for a few weeks so a little rain on a weekly basis would be a good thing, assuming we still want to have a nice lawn.

I tried to use the "URL" tag to post three images in the previous post, but for some reason they don't appear in the forum. I can copy and paste each of those URL's into my browser's address bar and see the photos, but for some reason I couldn't get the forum to embed them.
Please let me know how to include external images, or feel free to edit the post to embed the images if that's easier. I did look at the FAQ page, but it wasn't clear on the details.
