Beehives Bailout Beware

Post by JD »

It's severely overgrown w/ weeds. I wouldn't plan on landing a topless there unless you are prepared to do a no-stepper and drop in. Here's why...

Couldn't you just aim for the road? It parallels your final. Thanks for the vid. I think landing here's going to be inevitable...

The road is much lower than the surrounding brush and has a steep gully on some sides. The tall brush may either grab a wingtip and spin the glider or badly damage the trailing edge in an attempted road landing. I suggest walking it very thoroughly before putting ones self in a position with no other options. That road has never been a safe place to land even before the growth got this tall. YMMV.

Here's a video from June, 2009, that shows how much cleaner the Beehives used to be. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=305r3-VIz2Y

Please pardon the weak technique.
