Hello from an arriving pilot, and a couple questions

Post by MikeL »

Hello all,

My name is Michael (as you could have guessed ;) ), and I've been flying with the Berkeley Hang gliding club for a few years. I have a hang 3 and about 25 hours of airtime (the vast majority of it in the last 3 months). I am moving to Cal tech to go to grad school, and am bringing my glider/harness/helmet with me. So I hope to see you all in the air sometime soon! However, I've got a couple questions:

1) Can I get a SHGA membership and a storage locker all set up for me before or by this weekend? My glider is being driven down this weekend (presumably) and I have no storage or rack or vehicle of my own, so I'll need to get this taken care of quickly. I presume I will have to contact Jay about this regardless but I'm always inclined to hear any input from those more knowledgeable than me ;)

2) Does anyone have any recommendations regarding the purchase of a good parachute in this area? I own my own helmet, harness, and glider but am using a club parachute which I cannot keep, and as such I'll have to get a parachute somewhere around here.

Again, I hope to see you all in the air!

Thanks,
Michael Lichterman

SHGA has a school and hang gliding goods/services vendor associated with the club. Windports sells chutes and repack services. Additionally if the club glider storage is full, they also have some glider storage across the the street from the LZ.

There are a few storage lockers available for immediate rental. I will be in the LZ saturday and sunday. You can print a membership application from the website under club info. Welcome to Kagel.

Betty Pfeiffer's High Energy Sports also makes and sells parachutes:

Thank you for the suggestions!

Hi Mike,
See Windsport's Andy or Joe in the LZ. We have new and used reserves, and handle Free Flight, High Energy, and Lara's.
