Some questions about the pavilion project

There was a discussion about the pavilion project here, started by Tom Shaffer on September 11, 2011. It seems to have vanished from the list of topics, but remarkably, it's not really gone. It survives at:

I wish I understood what happened to it, but I don't. As many know, the pilot forum was down between the afternoon of Friday, September 16, and early in the morning of Monday, September 19. The machinery behind the pilot forum includes a Microsoft database, and it seems that it got corrupted. Somehow it spontaneously recovered on Monday morning; perhaps ReadyHosting (our Internet Service Provider) restored the database from a backup copy. In any case, it seems that some incoherencies remain, like this missing discussion. If anyone is aware of other errors of significance, please let me know, and I'll do what I can to recover them.

Off topic - How'd you and your Litespeed fare following a near appearance here?

It was late in the day, and the air was still active as I turned onto final and confidently planned to win the spot landing contest. First I was going to be short, and then long, and then short again as I leveled out in ground-effect, so I tried to stretch the glide a little. But topless gliders don't stretch. When I finally tried to flare, it was much too late. Some gliders will drop a wing, but I'm blessed with one that stalls symmetrically and drops both wings. Having made this mistake plenty of times before, the routine is familiar: I hold the bar out as far as I can, belly-flop to the ground, and roll ignominiously to a stop on my trusty wheels. But this time, the wheels didn't roll. The nose of the glider went over fast and hard, and I took out a downtube and wrenched one elbow a bit as I swung through the control frame. It could have been a lot worse.

When I inspected the wheels afterwards, the bearing surface of one was somewhat damaged. Like many others, these wheels consist of two halves that bolt together over a hub on the basetube. It looks like the two halves didn't line up quite right, and the hub jammed on a resulting corner. However, these are good solid wheels with alignment pins to make sure the halves line up, so I'm still puzzled.

There must be a moral to this story, but I don't know what it is. Maybe I just got what I deserved.

Having trashed 19 DTs in a mere 778 hrs I have learned that there is no moral to the story and none of us get what we deserve. Having witnessed my share of serious to minor errors with outcomes from harmless to fatal I have come to appreciate the absolutely impersonal nature of nature and of the laws of Newtonian physics.

That being said, I suppose there is indeed a moral to this and every story like it. The pilot who foolishly takes personally the forces of nature shall in all likelihood "Take It Personally", if you get my drift. May your elbow heal more rapidly than my left shoulder did after I tried landing my Falcon downhill across the ravine from Glen Haven on 11/09/2009.

Wow, this is confusing. Three threads on the same topic and two have exactly the same title. This one here and the one right next to it are both the same and being replied to.

The one (not this one) next door is discussing stuff, that I hope interested people see.

Can we fix this: combine them, rename one, delete one if needed?

I'm gonna start a new one to discuss forward looking gazebo progress.
