Gazebo Roof Construction

This thread is to organize the roof construction.

I think we are at the stage where we still need an experienced project head to lead the volunteer effort on this.

Glen I met with my contractor on Saturday morning, he is very reasonable and is going to give us 2 estimates 1 for doing the roof framing with the required Simpson hardware to build it. 2 a separate estimate bid to finish all the Simpson hardware and install the T & G roof. This gives us the option to do the T & G and some of the Simpson hardware ourselves with volunteers. We should have a estimate by next week.

I understand that we currently have bids from contractors and alternatively an offer from someone to do it very low cost with volunteer help.

I hope we save the money, because we need to, but that's only possible if volunteers really do the work. I'm willing to commit to a couple long days each of the next couple weeks. Thanksgiving will leave me unavailable for a week, but I would love to help before that. Any chance we can get started? I really want that roof. The roof was the first thing invented by humans, for good reason - without one, they were just filthy animals.

The BOD will likely be voting on roof proposals this Thursday. If a decision is made we could order wood by next week.

Sounds like the roof construction may start soon. Please someone post here or email me before that happens. I'll bubble wrap the rail to protect it.

We'll make sure we do that Glen,
The club officers accepted Tom Cornelius' offer to construct the gazebo rafters for the cost of materials only. Tom has offered to head up the construction of this next phase for volunteer wages ($0.)

He will bring his son out and accept help from one or two club members at at a time. More than that will get in the way. There are plenty of other things we can ask volunteers to do. Tom expects completion of the rafters in less than 1 month from when he begins.

Tom is ready to start right away but today we ran into a small hold up. Ron Keinan nurtured a lead with the top dog at the Sylmar Home Depot and they came out and met with me and Rob Burgis today. They are preparing a request for a financial grant from their corporate office. We should know fairly soon how much they requested and our chances of getting it.

We don't think this will hold up progress for more than a few days.
