SHGA Float in El Segundo Annual Holiday Parade 12/11/11

Post by Lynn McLaughlin »

Sylmarians,

We want to participate in the El Segundo Holiday Parade (very close to our Dockweiler flight park) and hope you might have ideas for a float design. Some of you might have been around in the late 80's when Toby and team had a float in a Sylmar parade. We want to revive that community spirit and this is a great opportunity for Hang Gliding to have a presence near our student flight park.

Please let me know if you are interested in helping us. If you have float ideas get them to me by Friday 11/18.

Hope to hear back from some of our super creative Kagelites...

Let's have someone truck tow down the parade path:

We could use this oppertuity to reach out to the public alerting them to the dangers of paragliding and ride on a death mobile. So in place of attracting new pilots, scaring of our potential PG rivals?

Or we could have someone hang from a glider and wave

i did doo-dah parade. the croud went crazy when the kite was off the ground. if we could rent a wind machine and mount it on the back of a pick up, roped to truck, rope men on each wing it will be safe. rome

Wow! Cool float concept OP. Can you conjure up one of these and tow it down the avenue?

The board discussed participating in the parade but found themselves stretched very thin this time of year and felt it best to leave any parade activities to individual volunteers.

I'm not sure if enough people are interested in doing it this year. If not, we'll try again next year.

Hey Y'all,

Loving these ideas... especially the truck tow. After further discussion, it looks like we do not have the resources (volunteer labor) to make this happen. I will put a "tickler" in my calendar for next August and hopefully we will have what it takes to make this fun event happen in 2012.
