Doug,
The reason that Joe's glider stayed together is the same reason that this type of glider can fly with no top rigging - a really STRONG crossbar! If it can hold together upside down without rigging it can do the same right side up. If Joe had been flying a kingposted glider it would have surely tacoed, and we would be talking about funeral arrangements right now.
ICE - Joe Petrosian's crash

We went through a similar drama w/ my neighbor Jeff Cr*ig and the dispute between his GF and estranged wife. Like an ASS--I got caught in the middle. You know what they say about the road to Damnation.....Mike M wrote:About a year and a half ago Kathy (my wife) spent a great deal of time putting together emergency contact information for nearly all the pilots in the club. Joe was included....
The Crestline club issues emergency information card each year to accompany the membership card. Cell phone get flung away or damaged during some crashes and even during normal flights. I even lost a wallet at 6,000'. As long as we don't mind sticking our hands up each other's arses to get that possibly blood, sweat or even worse-soaked wallet out of our fellow pilots dark places, it may not hurt to do the emergency card thing as well.
What if this happened at Ave S or elsewhere?
One thing we might want to ad to the gazebo when the roof is done is a metal lockable cabinet that would contain vital or just useful information that we want to always have on-site. Included would be emergency info for pilots.
This would also be where the first aid kit and similar item might be kept.
BTW, if I ever go down, I hope someone would check my truck to see if my dog or a girlfriend is in the back and needs a ride home. Don't worry the dog doesn't bite, but any woman found is best handled with extreme caution.
