Why do people follow the crowd?

You should have been here during "Brown Sunday", there were a lot of scared pilots.
I was in my house and it got dark so fast. I went outside and it was a picture that looked bad. You didn't need to be a pilot to know that things were ugly. Pilots were either running away from the LZ or trying to get down as fast as possible. I saw a few gliders out of control falling like leaves out of the sky. I was scared for every pilot that chose to tuff-it out and make a break for the LZ.
One glider stands out, I might be wrong, but I believe it was katherine. She was fluttering down like a leaf and came down near the dam. All I could do was stand out there and watch with my jaw dropped.
