Well I'm back in California. (See the Cinco De Fly-O post in events) I bought into the group that built the ramp at the El Rancho launch in Tehachapi, so I can get access anytime. If anyone is interested, let me know.
We are literally launching out of someone's backyard (lucky buggers), and the property owners are NOT pilots. So we need to show restraint. In other words, don't be expecting me to take 20+ people there, but the occasional group of a few pilots isn't out of the question.

This is Dan Armstrong in Bear Valley (Tehachapi). I remember your name from a while back. I did not know that you were flying El Rancho. As you know, this site is fairly sensitive and could be easily lost. The owners have requested that all people flying from their property be supervised by one of the locals (Joe Kinn, Scott Beery and I). A practical maximum number of pilots would be about 8 pilots (two vehicles) and the owners must be notified before every day of flying.
The El Rancho launch is located within a gated community and any vehicle entering the valley must have a resident sticker or a pass from a resident. El Rancho is an excellent soaring site, but can be difficult to launch due to a convergence that forms above launch. Unless conditions are pretty mild, I consider El Rancho a hang 4 site.
We have been flying El Rancho off and on since 1987. I used to own the launch property and have invited quite a few people to fly here from the SHGA. The only real issues we have had at El Rancho have been associated with Dino Dinasio. Most people enjoy flying here and I would like to invite them to fly, within the caveats listed above.
