The Crestline Board is entertaining the idea of having a Ryan Voight Landing Clinic on June 2 and 3. It would include multiple rides up the Big O Loop, videos of your landings and then group classes on just what you did and how to improve your technique, as well a dinner. The charge would be somewhere around $20 - $30 for the 2 days. We need to know if there is enough interest in this to book Ryan for the weekend. I highly recommend attending this landing clinic if you are at all in need of improvement. The Big-O Loop is the perfect setup to get multiple launches and landings in a single day. I also feel that Ryan is one of the most effective landing instructor/coaches available. Please avail yourself of this convenient opportunity to improve the safety of your flying pursuits.

I'm all about supporting HG events when I can. However, what would you suppose this would offer beyond having Greg DeWolf deconstruct your flare window at dockwilier? On a sheer volumetric and industrial level, Greg must have made and observed more hang glider landings than anyone on this planet/universe etc... exceeding "The Greblo" himself. Every time I go back to the beach I leave will a flare control that only 10 consecutive landings in the presence of "Mr. Landing" can provide. http://www.wind-drifter.com/ReturningToEarth.pdf
Having received a bit of instruction while visiting the point, I can say that Ryan does have a particular opinion of landing that differs from our generally assumed best practices. He feels that taking extra steps after touching down is a significant injury threat, so no-step flares will be considered mostly the only method acceptable. I would say that our generally acceptable practices include the need to execute a "running" landing.
All that said: Ryan's event sounds interesting. A chance to compare landings against a bunch of other pilots. I could literally bring my home TV and laptop. We could all see and compare landings in slow-mo. How much is each big-o ride to launch?

Reports I have read from others indicate that there's a great deal more to it than you might expect. Plenty of pilots land just great at Dockweiller then pound in when flying X/C or landing in thermic conditions.
Greg's article is very good but is outdated and contains errors that if trusted can result in broken downtubes and tip wands in modern gliders. It was written in a different era for a different glider.
