Pre-SHGA photo of Kagel LZ

I came across this hero-photo taken in the Kagel LZ in early 1983, before the SHGA was created. The location is just about where the current LZ gate is, only the ground surface was level with Gridley St. at that time and cars just pulled off the road to park. What's notable is the lack of the Gavina bridge and Santiago Estates or any road east of the wash.

More photos to come as I sort through them. I just found a box full of 'em.

Not a Harrier, my glider at that time was an early WW Duck and the glider in the background was more likely a UP Condor.

the original shga was started about 1976 or 1977, when we ran out of lz's, why 1983??? rome

Great photo Wayne! So that rock-strewn plateau was the LZ at that time? No wonder Greblo tries to teach everyone how to moon-walk. I'd hate to pound in on that.
