For those that haven't noticed, Richard and Kat Shaw went to some serious effort to study the gate construction plans, drill, tap and insert lubrication fittings on the big gate to launch. This was done with the approval of the Forest Service District Ranger.
The gate is now about 50% easier to open. Rome doesn't have to use his Block and Tackle system any longer. There's still some more work to be done to make it open even easier. We wan't to try to make it even better for Rome, Nancy, and our other fabulous volunteer drivers.
Thanks Richard and Kat.

I did some more work on the gate and you'll find it much easier to open now. Once unlatched, give it one hard push and let go and it will swing all the way to the other side.
Darryl told me he almost tripped and fell trying to keep up with it.
The best part is that the modifications allow us to keep it lubricated. Enjoy!
On another note, I've recently made some improvements to the landing areas. The upper lz is now 10 ft. wider, east of the grass strip and north of the wind streamer. We've added 100 ft of length to the north end of the wash runway and covered many of the boulders on the tall western berm. The overshoot area south of the overshoot hill has been graded as has the emergency landing area back at the dam. It's now large and free of trees and tall brush.
